We’ve been at War Since 1979
The peace has ended and I’m not talking about the tensions in the Middle East. I am talking about the relative quiet, for the last week and a half, from our talking heads in Washington. You know the place, where everyone is a virtual expert on everything. Last Thursday, on a text chain with a Dumbass Apparel Board member, I was suggesting that our Dumbasses of the Week should be both Mayor Bill DiBlasio and Governor Andrew Cuomo for their blaming the attacks on the Hasidim community in New York, on Donald Trump, while it was their policies on bail reform that had these same criminals released almost immediately. A rather dumbass thing to do, of which only the most completely self-unaware morons could be guilty. One little drone attack in the Middle East, killing possibly America’s worst enemy and a man who is responsible for thousands upon thousands of deaths, in response to an attack on OUR embassy, and the plethora of choices from which we have to select for this week’s Dumbass honor is truly overwhelming and naming only one is just not enough.
I have a buddy from my home town (RM) who seems to have the best Facebook memes EVER, and his post told people to brace themselves because suddenly everyone was going to become an expert on the Middle East; funny, sad and true. So let’s just set the record straight about who General Qasam Soleimani was, why he was targeted, and what we think he was doing in Iraq in the first place. Let’s also mention that Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis was killed in the drone attack as well and why that’s worth noting. Soleimani was Iran’s military leader, the head of its Quds Force and was the architect of Iran’s spreading influence in the Middle East.
Although he was not generally as well known, to most Americans, as were Osama bin Laden and Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, he was just as dangerous and was responsible for the deaths of thousands of people from Syria, to Iran, to Iraq and all over the Middle East. He has the blood of over 500 U.S. service men and women on his hands and was a key player in the attack on the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad which happened last Tuesday.
The drone attack took place on Thursday.
Also killed in the drone attack was al-Muhandis, who was the leader of Iraq’s mobilization force umbrella and its para military groups. So, from an American lives and an American interest perspective, one could argue that this was a two for one type of deal.
We certainly took out two really bad guys who hated the United States, ALL AMERICANS (including Progressives), and everyone and everything with whom and for what we stand. Did I mention the fact that these two were responsible for the attack on our Embassy in Iraq…which is an act of War?
Now to our Dumbass choices and where to begin?
MNSBC, as always, provides several candidates. Most notable this go round was Joy Reid who tweeted that this would be Trump’s Benghazi in Baghdad. Either I’m confused about the comparison to Benghazi or Ms. Reid borders on crazy? In Benghazi, 4 Americans were killed because our leadership, at the time, failed to act. Instead those people, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, blamed the entire affair on a YouTube video and only ever arrested the producer of the video. In Baghdad, when our embassy was attacked and an American was killed, two days later a drone attack took out the two men who planned the attack. I am still missing the comparison.
Congress is also another great source of Dumbass candidates whose hypocrisy and double speak seem to know no bounds. This past week, one Congressional stand out was Rep. Chris Murphy of Connecticut, who, on 12/31/19, called the attack in Baghdad predictable and stated that no one in the Middle East feared America. He was genuinely concerned about a lack of leadership from our President. However, on 01/02/20, this very same Chris Murphy wanted to know if our President acted without Congressional approval?
And, to be fair to Rep. Murphy’s question about the President acting without Congressional approval, the answer is an absolute YES, HE DID!
Among other things the attack was retaliatory in nature, was pre-emptive and saved American lives. In short, he did not need Congressional approval and acted in the best interest of the United States. On top of which, if you were the President, Mr. Murphy, would you trust this Congress to be involved in this decision?
The list of sudden foreign policy experts with a deep understanding of the conflicts in the Middle East, who have come out of the wood work, seems to be never ending. The talking heads who claimed that President Trump acted impulsively and without military intelligence could go on forever. The Congressional dips (Debbie Wasserman Schultz and others) who claimed that Trump took this action to divert from his pending impeachment is sickening. Nancy Pelosi in Congress and Tim Kaine in the Senate, are trying to take steps to limit the President’s power and his ability as Commander in Chief. The 2020 Democratic Slate of Presidential hopefuls were all able to opine on Trump’s action as well, hopefully ending their delusions of ever becoming Commander in Chief? I don’t know, maybe sending Iran a plane full of cash would have been a better solution? It’s a sad state of affairs when our elected leaders cannot seem to agree on who exactly are America’s enemies. Never mind not being able to agree on how to deal with our enemies but on WHO are our enemies. Iran under this regime, is our enemy. Soleimani and al-Muhandis were our enemies. On the other hand, Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) is real and has been able to get some of our Democrat friends to defend MS-13; Kim Jung Un; Open Borders and now Iran.
I understand that we have an election coming up in less than a year. I understand that EVERYTHING
that Donald Trump does must be opposed NO MATTER
what he does or why he does it. Or, so it would seem that this is the Democratic 2020 campaign strategy. I marvel at the utter transparent duplicity that our politicians and media people seem to think is acceptable.
When Osama bin Laden, a mythical figure in much of the Middle East, was taken out, not one Democrat feared any reprisal from his followers and Barack Obama was heralded as a hero. Soleimani gets taken out, and now everyone in Washington is a military expert who is shaking in their boots waiting for Iran’s response. I guess some of these pundits have not seen the pictures of Iranians baking cakes and celebrating a monster’s death and thanking Donald Trump. I am also not naïve, it’s just that as an American, I feel much more secure behind the protection of a red line drawn by Donald Trump than I do by a red line drawn by Barack Obama or any of the last 3-4 presidents for that matter. It’s true, Iran has promised “Harsh Revenge” but it’s also true that Donald Trump has promised more of the same if they decide to go down that path instead of opting for peace. In short, we have been at war with Iran since 1979. If they want peace, they’ll need to prove it by not engaging in acts of war. Let it start there. Also understand that nothing in Iran’s history would prove that they are being led by a suicidal regime, which would only come into play if they choose to not heed President Trump's warning about seeking “Harsh Revenge”.
