Dumbass of the Week 11/25/19
Another week and oh boy, the list of potential morons to choose from keeps growing. It wasn’t that long ago when someone like the Reverend Al Sharpton who paid himself over $1million from his own charity last year, would have taken the cake and won this week’s award. However,
The Dumbass Board has graciously decided that Mr. Sharpton was not the worst offender of the week and will, instead, one day grant the good Reverend a Lifetime Achievement Award. However, rest assured that we have so many other options that, once again, the decision is difficult and we will present several options and allow you to decide for yourselves.
A quick recap of last week includes an impeachment inquiry by the Intelligence Committee that has yet to prove anything other than the fact that the Democrats really, really hate Donald Trump. There was also a debate amongst the 2020 Democratic slate of Presidential hopefuls, just in case any of you missed it. I think that it was on MSNBC? The list of 2020 Dems interested in running for President keeps growing, ironically because many in that party must not have too much faith in the 14 or so people still in the race.
The impeachment inquiry. Well, let’s just say that despite the news reports it’s still far from a done deal. After two weeks of testimony by witnesses, called only by Democrats so there has not yet been any rebuttal witnesses, we have still been presented with no evidence of a crime.
However, it is clear that there were many in the Inter Agency world who did not like Mr. Trump nor his attorney, Rudy Guiliani.
However, when asked directly if there was any criminality or malfeasance that could be alleged, each witness answered, “No”.
Our favorite witness, actually everyone’s favorite witness, was Gordon Sondland, who could well be the Dumbass of the Week himself. Mr. Sondland’s testimony seemed to change minute by minute, statement by statement, while he was being questioned. He started out with a 23 page, 44 minute opening statement that was torn apart by his own later statements. Sondland made a huge splash when he said that there was in fact a Quid Pro Quo with regards to Ukraine…in the next moment, he acknowledged that the Quid Pro Quo was in regards to Ukrainian President Zelensky getting a meeting with President Trump (a.k.a. pre-conditions)…he later quoted President Trump as saying, with regards to Ukraine and Zelensky,
“I want nothing, no quid pro quo, just tell him to do the right thing and do what he ran on”… or as Sondland added, “words to that affect”.
So, after two weeks of witnesses who cannot link Mr. Trump or Mr. Giuliani for that matter, to any crime or illegal activity, we have the Democrats drawing up Articles of Impeachment to hand over to the Judiciary Committee run be the charming Jerrold Nadler. I can’t wait; get the popcorn. Still, in the end, the entire House of Representatives will have to pass the aforementioned Articles of Impeachment, which, if passed, would be handed over to the Republican controlled Senate for a trial. Words of warning, if impeachment is political, what makes anyone think that Mitch McConnell won’t get the last and loudest laugh?
The 2020 Democratic slate of Presidential hopefuls had a rough week. For starters, their debate got almost no attention and more people have threatened to jump into the race, making an already crowded field all the more cumbersome.
Another NYC Mayor, Michael Bloomberg, has already filled out the prerequisite paperwork and suggested that he would put his own money into a campaign for President. It must be nice to be a billionaire and be able to fund your own campaign without the drudgery of building grass root support to know and understand how people feel about your positions.
The other big name to ponder a 2020 run is Obama buddy, Deval Patrick, a former Governor of Massachusetts. Patrick, by virtue of the fact that he is threatening to enter the race must not have any faith in Elizabeth Warren who is also from Massachusetts. Keep in mind that Pete Buttigieg, a relatively unknown mayor from a South Bend, Indiana is tearing up the polls in both Iowa and New Hampshire and might emerge as the Democratic nominee. Now, if you believe the polls (and we don’), somehow Joe Biden still has the lead nationally for the nomination. Keep in mind, that if this impeachment goes over to the Senate, Joe Biden will be forced to testify and at least 5 of the final 14 people in that race will be sidelined in the Senate for the duration of the trial. In other words, Biden, Warren, Sanders, Booker, Harris and Klobuchar need to be hoping that the non-impeachment, impeachment process comes to an end…and soon.
In other news, China has threatened to punish companies which violate intellectual property laws as a first step with smoothing out the trade negotiations with the United States and that’s a huge deal. USMCA could get approved by the end of 2019, the DOW rose past 28,000 points and the S&P is over 3100 points. We can only imagine how great things would be if our friends on the Democratic side of the aisle cared as much about getting things done for the American people, as they do about impeaching the President who was elected by the American people.
